REPORT FOR 2010

2010 has been another busy year in the work of the Sunday School and the Bible Class. Up until June 2010 the weekly lessons were based on Go Teach material and we had 4 classes as well as the Bible Class.

The offerings that the children bring to Sunday School each week are forwarded to the Baptist Youth ‘Missions Project’. This year, and through to June 2011, the money is for ‘Road Trip Peru’. We are allocating this money to Luz-Maria, a national worker who is responsible for The Amazing Journey in Peru. Details of this project can be seen on the Sunday School Noticeboard.

On Sunday 6th June, Philip Annett (CEF) was our guest speaker and the children took part at both services.

Some major changes as far as Sunday School and Bible Class were concerned took place in 2010. These were implemented from September 2010 when all primary school age children leave for Sunday School half way through our morning service and are taught in 4 classes by teachers on a rota basis. We have 20 teachers on a 5-week rota.

A grouop of the teachers involved in Sunday School

The Sunday School material is called ‘Click’ which is published by The Good Book Company. The young people of secondary school age now complete worksheets as they listen to the sermon each Sunday morning. Opportunity is also given for further discussion on the issues raised at the Youth Fellowship on Sunday evenings.

At the start of the new season, special presentations were made to Mrs Daphne Weir who had been a teacher in the Sunday School since 1986 and to Mr Fenton Nesbitt who had given more than thirty years of service in the Sunday School and Bible Class. Fenton had also been Superintendent of the Sunday School for the past 9 years. We say thank you to them for their many years of dedicated service and thanks to God for the many lives they influenced over those years.

This year the Children’s Party was incorporated into a Family Fellowship Evening on Friday 10 December. Thank you to those who organised this successful night with lots of fun games and a lovely supper. Many boys and girls attended with their parents, and selection boxes were given out to the children, by a special visitor in a red suit!

NEW ARRANGEMENTS FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL

from 12 September 2010

Sunday School meets every Sunday morning during the morning service. The children stay in the main service until approximately 11:30 and then leave for Sunday School in the church hall, which lasts for about 45 minutes.

Primary school children (4-11 yr olds) are catered for in 4 different classes and are taught by members of our church on a rota basis.

The teachers use CLICK materials which are produced by The Good Book Company. The children also learn Bible verses and enjoy doing worksheets and crafts.

Secondary School Young People (11-18 yr olds) are encouraged to stay in the worship service each Sunday morning and to fill in specially prepared worksheets as they listen to the sermon. We are currently making our way through the early chapters of Genesis.

"We will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord, His power, and the wonders He has done" Psalm 78:4

REPORT FOR 2009

This report is a review and reflection on the past year’s work in the Sunday School and Bible Class. Modern day living demands time of our young people, for all the activities of education etc. and preparation for adult life, that we must be careful that they receive the teaching of God’s Word. As part of that teaching we trust that the Sunday School and Bible Class have made their contribution during 2009.

Pupil numbers during the year averaged 43 for 5 teachers. The weekly lessons are based on Go Teach material.

Each Sunday, the children bring their money offerings to Sunday School, and these offerings are used in benefiting other children through Baptist Youth. The Baptist Youth mission project for 2009 was “Project North Africa”. This project seeks to teach children about reaching out with the gospel in Muslim countries, through raising money to support the therapy centres throughout North Africa.

Our Annual Children’s Day Services was held on Sunday 6 June. As usual the children took part in the service and the guest speaker was Mr Mark Tully from Greenisland.

This Children’s Party took place on Friday 11 December, when the children enjoyed games and good food – the night finishing with an epilogue. We had our annual visit from Santa Claus; each child was given a selection box.

On Sunday 20 December, prizes for attendance at Sunday School and Bible Class for the year September 08 – June 09 were given out. They were presented by Pastor Grant. Congratulations to all who received their prize.

Finally to all who have helped by prayer and practical support, especially those who stand in for teachers during the past year, on behalf of the Sunday School and Bible Class we say Thank you. It is much appreciated.
