Report for 2010
Armagh Baptist Women had an encouraging year in 2010. The first event of the year was a Table Quiz held in February with questions set by our pastor’s wife followed by short testimonies. The March meeting was entitled “Health Awareness” when Elizabeth Williamson (who is a Community Psychiatric Nurse) gave a presentation about coping with stress and Emily Magrath, Health Promotion Officer with Action Cancer spoke to us about Lifestyle. A healthy supper was enjoyed by all. In May we had a fellowship meal in the main hall (prepared by an outside caterer) followed by an evangelistic talk by Sharon Acheson. September’s meeting was taken by Ann Mitchell from Zimbabwe, who spoke about the orphans in her country and how they value the support of Baptist Women. The year ended with a meeting in November when Jeanette Clingen from Crumlin demonstrated various types of Christmas dishes interspersed with words of testimony.
During the year Baptist Women held several events including a Saturday morning conference in Moira Church entitled ‘Acts of Prayer’ which was very beneficial. In April a Parent and Toddlers Group meeting was held in the Baptist Centre. As part of the Association Assembly meetings in May a Women’s Night was held. One of the highlights of the year was the Annual Baptist Women’s weekend when Linda McClaughlin spoke on “Seasons of Life”. A new venture was a Day Conference held adjacent to Cork Airport, also in November.
In addition to the formal meetings of the Ladies’ Group an encouraging new venture was a “Walk 4 Life” held in Armagh (and in many other churches) on four Thursday nights in June. The evenings were blessed with glorious weather and an encouraging number of visitors took part and afterwards heard a different speaker bring a challenging message each week. A healthy supper was served at the end of each evening.
In all 2010 was an encouraging year and the Lord blessed both the activities of Baptist Women and those in Armagh. We look forward to His blessing on another year’s work.
Report for 2009
During the year the Women’s Fellowship decided to meet more frequently, starting in April with a home talent night. Mrs Pauline McNeely brought the epilogue at the annual ladies’ meal in Aughnacloy. The first meeting after the summer break was entitled “Women encouraging Women” when the new Director of Baptist Women, Mrs Gail Curry, was the speaker. In November we held an outreach meeting with the title “Inner Beauty” when Miriam Anderson brought the closing message.
We finished the year when the ladies, accompanied by a few of the men, sang Christmas Carols at the Ard Mhacha Nursing Home.
The church was represented at Baptist Women’s events during the year, including the Rally during assembly week, the Conference in Portadown and the Baptist Women’s weekend which was held this year in Glenada, Newcastle in November. Members also attended the various functions in our own church, including the induction service, and helped with catering on many occasions.
Attendance at the meetings has been very encouraging and the committee decided to produce a bookmark giving details of the events in 2009-10.
